🚨
Autonomic dysreflexia is a medical emergency. If you're having symptoms now — pounding headache, sweating, a spike in blood pressure — sit up, find and remove the trigger, and follow the AD protocol / seek emergency care. This thread is for sharing experiences, not for managing an active episode.
AD is one of the most important things for people with injuries at T6 and above (and their caregivers) to understand cold. The more people share their triggers and near-misses, the more the next person knows what to watch for.
Get the conversation started
- What triggers your AD — and what's the most surprising trigger you've found?
- How do you abort an episode quickly?
- Any near-miss that taught you something you now do differently?
- Do your local ERs actually understand AD? How do you advocate?
